Brint Road and Centennial Road roundabout opens in Sylvania Township
The Lucas County Engineer’s Office officially opened the new roundabout at Brint Road and Centennial Road in Sylvania Township. Temporary lighting is in place until Toledo Edison installs permanent light poles and Crestline Paving and Excavating, who was the contractor for this project, will be at the site to finish up landscaping and restoration work over the summer.
This marks the sixth roundabout improvement in Sylvania Township and the second along Centennial Road.
“We’re pleased to deliver another roundabout to Western Lucas County that will enhance safety by significantly lowering the risk of crashes that cause death and serious injury,” Lucas County Engineer Mike Pniewski said, “while also improving traffic conditions by increasing traffic flow and capacity.”
In 2014, a roundabout at Brint and King Road was constructed. Around that same time, a traffic signal at McCord and Brint Road was also set up by the City of Sylvania. These changes resulted in an increase in traffic along the Brint Road corridor. In 2016, Sylvania Avenue and Centennial Road was reconstructed as a roundabout. The former traffic light at that intersection was relocated to Brint and Centennial, which had been a four-way stop intersection, to address new capacity needs. This improved capacity but it was not optimal.
Federal safety funding was secured to construct a roundabout at Brint and Centennial. The increased capacity of the roundabout will also address both current capacity needs, as well as anticipated capacity needs for the foreseeable future.
Last year, our office installed four new roundabouts. A second roundabout will begin construction at Sylvania Avenue and Kilburn Road in Richfield Township
in July.
“We look forward to delivering more roundabout intersections to improve safety in Lucas County where they make sense,” Pniewski added, “this year and in the coming years."
Public feedback on Facebook has been largely positive after announcing the opening.
