Angola Road widening and roundabout project complete
The Lucas County Engineer’s Office is nearly finished with its overall safety project for Angola Road that kicked off in Springfield Township in 2022. Crews are finishing the striping of the roadway as well as installation of necessary signage, east of the roundabout at Angola and King Road.
The full project consisted of a new roundabout improvement at Angola and King Road, installation of new center-turn lanes on each side of Angola to assist drivers in making safer left-turns and widened shoulders in each direction to accomodate more traffic.
Completed by Miller Brothers Construction of Archbold, Ohio, the roundabout opened to the public in November 2022. It also created a new entrance into the Springfield Township municipal complex on the south leg of the roundabout and reconstructed the Angola entrance into a right-in, right-out opening for safety.
“Providing a new roundabout intersection at Angola and King relieves a significant traffic issue in growing Springfield Township and western Lucas County as well as enhanced public safety,” Lucas County Engineer Mike Pniewski said. "Making lefts from King Road will be much safer now.
The new center-turn lanes stretch from the west side of the roundabout to just past Woodside Terrace and on the east side of the roundabout to just east of Wentworth Ave.
“The widening of Angola Road in this vicinity will improve traffic by providing a safe harbor for left-turning vehicles,” Pniewski added. “Our office is proud to perform projects that enhance the safety and quality of life for our citizens.”
Workers will finish up driveway aprons, landscaping and restoration work this summer.
