Airport Highway Sidepath Project

Picture

Project Summary

The Airport Highway (SR-2) Sidepath project will enhance the safety for pedestrians along Airport Highway (SR-2) from West Mall Drive to Holland-Sylvania Road, except within the IR-475 interchange, in Springfield Township, Lucas County, Ohio. It will run on the north side of Airport Highway near Spring Meadows, connect with existing walkways over the I-475 interchange, use the current crossing on the east side ramp to get across Airport, and then link up with the new path on the south side of the street to Holland Sylvania Road.

The project includes a new asphalt pavement side path, curb ramps, drainage improvements, earthwork and pavement markings. The project is fully funded with Transportation Alternatives Funds received through the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments (TMACOG) and through a Joint Cooperation Agreement with Springfield Township.

The new sidepath will stretch on Airport Highway from West Mall Drive in front of Burger King along Airport, go across the north side of the I-475 interchange, cross the roadway onto the southside via the signal and crosswalk and continue along the south side of Airport to Holland Sylvania Road.

The surface (top) course was completed on the eastbound side over the weekend. Crews still need to do some restoration work and more before they start on the westbound side in the next few weeks. Paving on the eastbound side from Holland Sylvania Road to the I-475 exit ramp is complete.
